    When you make a donation to VSC, you help people heal from trauma. You support a 24-hour crisis hotline and free, trauma-informed counseling. Support Our Work VSC is providing trauma-informed services to help survivors of crime heal from effects of victimization. Our services are vital during the ongoing COVID pandemic due to survivors' feelings of isolation, anxiety, uncertainty, depression, and grief. When you make a donation to VSC, you are helping people heal from trauma. You are supporting a 24-hour hotline staffed by trained victim advocates who can help. Today, survivors of crime and trauma feel listened to, validated, and safe. A survivor of child abuse begins to understand it wasn't their fault. A trauma survivor is learning to handle PTSD symptoms. Supporting VSC is an investment in a community resource and a safety net for people who need support to heal from the most painful experiences of their lives. Because of VSC's services, people are able to reclaim their lives. They are able to care for their families, go to school, and improve their daily function.     Request a visit with an educator for your school. Our educators are trained to teach ages preschool through college. / Prevention & Training / For Schools / Prevention and training for schools Victim Services Center aims to help reduce incidences of crime through prevention programs for Montgomery County schools and other community groups. Programs are designed to be age-appropriate and trauma-informed for audiences; from preschool age to college-age students. Below is a list of topics available. If none of the listed topics does not meet your specific needs, please inquire about customized programs. Request a Program Child Sexual Abuse Prevention It is a priority to prevent all types of abuse and neglect of children. Below are a list of skills that can help prevent child sexual abuse. While VSC has programs designed for children and youth, adults are ultimately responsible for ensuring that children are safe. Please visit our Parents and Caregivers page to learn about child sexual abuse prevention for adults. Learning about body parts Respect for bodily integrity Asking for help Social, assertive communication skills Sexual Assault Prevention Sex education should not only include information about contraception or anatomy. Quality, comprehensive sex education should include information about sex, sexuality and relationships. If we deny young people information about sex and relationships and tell them to not have sex then this also denies them the skills and tools to make healthy decisions. VSC provides inclusive, trauma-informed and culturally responsive sex education. Below are a list of skills and topics that can help prevent sexual assault. The approach is to have discussions and skill-building activities that address sexual communication, sexual respect, and consent. We also aim to improve communicate between parents and young people about sex. When the VSC advocate met me at the hospital and stayed with me through the rape kit exams, I was not alone and felt supported. Thank you." -- Victim of Sexual Assault 208 victims received in person accompaniments to court hearings “My advocate held my hand, explained the trial process to me, and helped me feel safe in the courtroom and she let me cry." --Survivor of Homicide Victim 24 victims were assisted with filing for order of protection from sexual violence and intimidation. “I am grateful for the advocate assisting me with filing for the order of protection and explaining the application and the process to me.” --A Victim of Abuse 219 clients assisted with victim’s compensation. VSC received $160,408 for victims “I was physically assaulted and lost all my front teeth. VSC’s advocate explained the crime victim’s compensation and helped me apply for it. I received financial assistance to help with my dental bills.” --Victim of Physical Assault 414 Education programs presented to schools in person and virtually reaching more than 8,219 people "My son learned child abuse prevention from the educators that presented at his school.
