“Consent for Kids” story time available in Montgomery County

(Norristown, PA) – Learning about consent is an important part of child development. VSC’s Consent for Kids Story Time program is available in person in Montgomery County, PA, or online. “We teach kids about consent because every child should have the vocabulary to speak up when something doesn’t feel right,” explains Jessica Carson, VSC’s education supervisor. “A child who understands consent is able to express more clearly when their boundaries are crossed.” It is estimated that as many as 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys are victims of child sexual abuse before their 18th birthdays. “Preventing child abuse is never the child’s job. However, we can give each child the tools to speak up if something makes them uncomfortable.” A typical Consent for Kids program includes an educator reading an age-appropriate book about body safety; a discussion, and information about what to do if a child needs help.
